Good to know
- Himeji Castle became one of Japan's first World Heritage sites in 1993. Inside the keep, the wooden stairs are steep, so wear easy shoes.
- Kokoen, a set of Japanese gardens right next to the castle, is a quieter place to rest after the climb.
- Engyo-ji on Mount Shosha, reached by ropeway, was a filming location for The Last Samurai.
