Questions travellers ask

How do I get to Beppu and Yufuin?

Take the Shinkansen to Kokura and change to the JR Sonic limited express, which runs along the coast to Beppu and Oita. From Fukuoka, trains and highway buses go to Beppu and Yufuin. Oita Airport has flights from Tokyo and Osaka.

What is there to do in Oita?

Hot springs above all. Beppu has eight hot spring areas, sand baths and eggs steamed in onsen vapor, and Yufuin is a relaxed onsen town in the hills. Walk the Kokonoe Yume Otsurihashi, Japan's highest pedestrian suspension bridge, and see the old temples of the Kunisaki Peninsula.

What should I eat in Oita?

Seki saba mackerel, prized for its firm flesh, with a squeeze of kabosu citrus. Take home yuzukosho, a peppery yuzu and chili paste, and barley shochu.
