Questions travellers ask

How do I get to Fukuoka?

Fukuoka Airport is just minutes from the city center by subway. Hakata Station is the end of the Sanyo Shinkansen, about an hour from Hiroshima and linked to Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo, and the start of the Kyushu Shinkansen to Kumamoto and Kagoshima.

What is there to do in Fukuoka?

Visit Dazaifu Tenmangu, with over 6,000 plum trees blooming in late winter; the wisteria tunnel at Kawachi Fujien in Kitakyushu; boat rides through the canals of Yanagawa; and the beaches and surf of the Itoshima Peninsula. At night, eat at the city's yatai street stalls.

What should I eat in Fukuoka?

Hakata tonkotsu ramen, with cloudy pork bone broth and thin noodles, the city's birthplace dish. In cooler months, try motsunabe tripe hot pot and mizutaki chicken hot pot, plus yakitori, bite-size gyoza and Amaou strawberries.
