Good to know

  • Tadao Ando's Church of the Light is a working church, not a museum. Check the visiting rules on its website before you go.
  • The famous portrait of Saint Francis Xavier was found in a house in Sendaiji, a hidden Christian village in northern Ibaraki. The relics museum there tells the story.
  • The Kawabata Yasunari Literature Museum honours the Nobel Prize writer, who spent his youth in Ibaraki.
