Best time to visit Hiroshima

Cherry blossoms open around 25 March in the Peace Memorial Park and along the rivers. Autumn is excellent: Momijidani Park on Miyajima is named for its maples, which turn red in mid to late November. Check the tide table to see the Itsukushima torii at high tide (floating) or low tide (walkable).

Tips

  • Heavy rain warnings can stop trains in early July. Keep a spare day in your plan if you travel then.
  • On Miyajima, check the tide times for the floating torii before you set the time of your ferry.
  • Summer on Miyajima is hot and the deer love paper bags. Carry water and keep snacks out of sight.
