Best time to visit Fukuoka
Cherry blossoms open around 22 March, early for Japan. The Hakata Gion Yamakasa (1–15 July) climaxes with a 4:59 am float race on the 15th. October and November bring dry, comfortable evenings, the best time to eat at Nakasu's yatai food stalls.
Tips
- Yatai stalls close in bad weather and strong wind. Have a backup dinner plan on rainy nights.
- Fukuoka Airport is close to the city, so typhoon cancellations clear quickly. Still, keep a spare day in September.
- In winter, a warm jacket is enough; heavy snow gear is unnecessary unless you head to the mountains.
