Good to know
- Takasakiyama Natural Zoo has fed the wild Japanese macaques on the mountain since 1952. Around 1,000 monkeys come down to the feeding ground.
- Umitamago, the Oita Marine Palace Aquarium, sits right below Takasakiyama, so the two make an easy half day. Its walrus show is famous.
- Seki-aji and seki-saba are premium horse mackerel and mackerel caught in the Hoyo Strait and landed at Saganoseki. Eat them as sashimi.
