Good to know
- Karato Market is the place to try fugu. It also has sushi counters, and on Friday to Sunday and holidays the Ikiiki Bakangai food market runs until 3 pm.
- Walk to Kyushu: the Kanmon Tunnel has a pedestrian road under the strait to Moji in Kitakyushu.
- Ganryujima, the island where Miyamoto Musashi fought Sasaki Kojiro in 1612, is a short boat ride from Karato.
