Ebisu grew up around a brewery that started making Yebisu beer in 1890, and the district and its station are named after the beer. When the brewery moved out, the site became Yebisu Garden Place, with shops, restaurants and the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum.
The real draw is eating and drinking: Ebisu has a high concentration of restaurants, cafes, izakaya, ramen shops and standing bars, and it feels more grown-up than Shibuya next door. Daikanyama's boutiques are a 10-minute walk west. More of the ward is in our Shibuya guide.
