Shibuya's crowds meet at Shibuya Crossing, known as the busiest pedestrian crossing in the world, right outside the station's Hachiko exit. Every couple of minutes traffic stops in all directions and people pour across from every corner. Next to it is the statue of Hachiko, the dog who waited for his master at the station every day for years after the man had died.
The area around the station has been rebuilt with towers such as Shibuya Scramble Square, whose rooftop deck gives the classic view down on the crossing, and Shibuya Hikarie. Miyashita Park reopened in 2020 as a shopping complex with a park on its roof. Harajuku is a 15-minute walk north. More of the ward is in our Shibuya guide.

Questions
When is the best time to see Shibuya Crossing?
Evenings, when the screens are lit and the crowds are biggest. Early mornings are calm if you want photos without people.
Is Shibuya Sky worth it?
If you want the view straight down on the crossing and over the city, yes. Book a time slot online, especially for sunset.
