The Tsukiji fish market opened in 1935 and closed in 2018, when the wholesale market moved to Toyosu. The Outer Market stayed: a few blocks of narrow lanes with restaurants, knife and kitchen shops, and stalls selling sushi, grilled seafood and tamagoyaki (sweet omelette).
Come hungry in the morning, then walk off breakfast at Tsukiji Hongwanji or the Hama-rikyu Gardens. Ginza is ten minutes away. See our Chuo guide for the rest of the ward.
