Tokyo Skytree has been the tallest tower in Japan since it opened in 2012, rising 634 metres above Oshiage, an old downtown neighbourhood of small streets east of the Sumida River. Trains stop at the adjacent Tokyo Skytree Station and nearby Oshiage Station, both linked directly to the tower.
At its foot is Tokyo Solamachi, a large shopping and dining complex that also holds Sumida Aquarium and the Postal Museum. Asakusa is a 20-minute walk west across the river, past Ushijima Shrine and Sumida Park. More of the ward is in our Sumida guide.
