Kokusai-dori is the busiest street in Okinawa and Naha's main shopping and nightlife strip, running about 1.6 km through the centre. It rose from the ruins after the Second World War, and because it is roughly a mile long it became known as the "Miracle Mile".
Most shops now sell souvenirs and Okinawan snacks, but the covered arcades to the south are where locals shop. At Makishi Public Market you can buy seafood on the ground floor and have it cooked upstairs. The Tsuboya pottery street is a short walk beyond. More of the city is in our Naha guide.
