Yokohama Chinatown is the largest Chinatown in Japan. It took shape after the port opened in 1859, when Chinese traders and agents came with Western trading companies. Today about 250 Chinese-owned or themed shops and restaurants fill its streets, entered through ornate gates.
Graze on steamed pork buns and xiaolongbao from street stalls, or sit down for a long lunch. The Kanteibyo and Masobyo temples are worth a look, and Yamashita Park and the harbour are five minutes north. See our Naka, Yokohama guide for the rest of the waterfront.
