- Naka Ward, Nagoya
Osu is Nagoya's best-known shopping district, counted with Akihabara in Tokyo and Nipponbashi in Osaka as one of Japan's three big electric towns. Its covered arcades are packed with electronics and computer shops, vintage clothing, anime goods, cheap eats and stalls from all over Asia.
The district grew up around Ōsu Kannon, a temple moved here in 1612 on the orders of Tokugawa Ieyasu, together with its famous library of old books. Banshōji-dōri was the first fully covered arcade in Nagoya. Small shrines such as Miwa Shrine hide between the shops. More of the ward is in our Naka ward guide.
